The site consists of three arable fields crossed by two hedgerows. Woodford Wood, located within the north of the site, is registered ancient woodland, and Shearwood Plantation, in the south-west of the site, is a smaller deciduous woodland.
As illustrated in the Constraints & Opportunities Plan at the bottom of this page, the main ecological constraint influencing the site is the woodland. Consequently, a buffer of 20m is recommended in recognition of its designated status, and a 15m buffer for Shearwood Plantation.
Badger setts are present within Woodford Wood and Shearwood Plantation. The proposed buffers would largely accommodate the recommended 30m buffers from sett locations.
Additional woodland planting around the site edges will help mitigate against landscape and visual impacts. This will also surround the proposed mountain bike trail, providing an exciting and lush setting for a biking experience.
New ecological habitats will be provided and a Biodiversity Net Gain will be achieved.
