Welcome to our public consultation for the development of land at Boringdon Park.
The current local plan for Plymouth was adopted in 2019 following an Examination in Public conducted by the Planning Inspectorate. This site was allocated in the plan to provide a community sports hub, together with enabling residential development, to complement the regeneration of the former clay works to the south.
Having established the principle of providing such a facility, a considerable amount of work has been undertaken as to how the development could be delivered, and the type of facilities that could be accommodated.
As the redevelopment of the former China Clay works begins imminently, this consultation is to establish community preferences and priorities for the Sport Hub and design of the residential development to enable more detailed plans to be submitted for approval.
The proposals will deliver a new Sports Hub for the Plymouth area which will include a mix of grass pitches including one with floodlighting and 12 further pitches of varying sizes, Padel Tennis courts and a new 'hub' building that includes changing facilities, a cafe, gym and physio area. A new woodland, hilltop park, community allotments and a cycle trail are also proposed.
Supporting this facility is enabling development which aspires to create a green sustainable neighbourhood that comprises up to 200 dwellings (including up to 60 affordable homes).
South-West Strategic Developments (SWSD) Ltd are putting forward this site; they have a strong reputation for promoting responsible development, resulting in sites being brought forward to deliver much needed high quality residential and mixed-use proposals. They are passionate about good design and high quality developments, being sympathetic to the needs and concerns of the local community and the environment.
On this website we have provided details of the site, its constraints and opportunities, illustrative masterplan and technical information - there is also a questionnaire available at the end for you to fill out to make comments on the emerging proposals.
Your opinion is important to us and we hope your responses will help shape the development as it is finalised, which we think could integrate well with Plympton and the east fringe of Plymouth.
Land at Boringdon Park provides an excellent opportunity to deliver a much needed Sports Hub for the wider community, as well as market and affordable homes for the area in a sustainable location. As the site is allocated in the Local Plan, the principle of development is already agreed - but we hope that your comments will shape the emerging layout and design of the proposals.
